There was tension, yesterday, at the Adinlewa axis of Akure metropolis, Ondo State, when a soldier stabbed a middle-aged man, Bunmi Omodele. The soldier, identified as Kazeem Tope, allegedly stabbed the victim several times in the back and other parts of the body with a knife during an altercation.

The Guardian gathered that the soldier was in the company of his friend, Azeez Ayomide, who earlier had a minor disagreement with the victim.

According to sources, the victim, who lost much blood, was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

“Azeez had an issue with Omodele. We believed it ought to be settled amicably. But to our surprise, Azeez went to invite a soldier to our street to deal with Omodele.

“It was later that we got to know that the soldier is a friend of Azeez. When they were discussing the situation, it snowballed into a heated argument, and in the process, he was stabbed,” a source said.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olufumilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the incident, but did not give further details.
Meanwhile, The Guardian learnt that the soldier had been transferred to the police headquarters, for further interrogation over the incident.
